Hershey Chocolate Continues To Produce Delicious Treats For All To Enjoy
One of the great icons of America is the Hershey Bar. The company is a great success story and its products have been part of the American way of life for decades. Their main rival is Mars and competition between the two has been quite hostile. The secrecy given to recipes for Mars and Hershey chocolate gave Roald Dahl the idea for his story in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
The company was founded in 1894 by Milton Hershey and is one of the oldest chocolate companies in the United States. Even its town headquarters changed its name to Hershey, Pennsylvania. The Milk Chocolate Bar was introduced in 1903 and the cone shaped Hershey’s Kisses appeared four years later. Hershey Chocolate continued to put new products on line with Hershey’s Syrup, Chocolate Chips, Krackel Bar and Mr. Goodbar.
The recipe for chocolate is different to that of European companies, who use less sugar and more cocoa but Hershey still sells around the world. Since 1988, the company bought the rights to make and sell Cadbury products, the main brand in the UK. There has been a tough fought battle with rival, Mars for the contract to supply candy bars to the US military.
There’s no little men slaving away in the factory as in Willy Wonka land but there is a Hershey Chocolate World visitor center with restaurants and shops. It also includes the Hersheypark amusement park with ten roller coasters and water rides. Entrance includes access to the next door zoo. The Hersheypark Stadium is used for concerts and sporting events and the Hersheypark Arena is an indoor area that mainly hosts hockey, basketball and wrestling in addition to live concerts. Some big name stars have appeared there, including Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra and Elton John. The Hershey Museum contains displays on Native American history and the culture of Pennsylvanian Germans.
Always looking to the future, the company has continued to expand its product range and ensured brand loyalty from each new generation. There are Hershey chocolate cookies, sugar free candy, nutrition bars and sweet and salty granola bars. Other popular items include Twizzlers Candy, Jolly Rancher Hard Candy and Hershey’s Smartzone. Customers can drink the Hershey chocolate too, in the form of chocolate milk or hot cocoa. Dessert toppings can be sprinkled, including sweetened coconut flakes. The Hershey Company is so synonymous with chocolate and childhood that the love of their candy bars continues into adulthood.
